'Twas The Night Before Jesus Came
Written by Dianne Frances Donenfeld
'Twas the night before Jesus came and all through the house
Not a creature was praying, not one in the house.
Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care,
In hopes that Jesus would not come there.
The children were dressing to crawl into bed,
Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head.
And Mom in her rocker with baby on her lap,
Was watching "The Late Show" while I took a nap.
When out of the East there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash!
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.
With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray,
I knew in a moment that this must be The Day.
The light of His face made me cover my head;
It was Jesus! Returning just like he said.
And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth,
I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.
In the Book of Life which He held in His hand
Was written the name of every saved man.
He spoke not a word as He searched for my name,
When He said "It's not here" my head hung in shame.
The people whose names had been written with love
He gathered to take to His Father above.
With those who were ready He rose without a sound
While all the rest were left standing around.
I fell to my knees, but it was too late;
I had waited too long and thus sealed my fate.
I stood and cried as they rose out of sight;
Oh, if only I had been ready tonight.
In the words of this poem the meaning is clear;
The coming of Jesus is drawing near.
There's only one life and when comes the last call,
We'll find that the Bible was true after all!

Saturday, August 15/The Lord is At Hand
Philippians 4:5
A theme throughout the New Testament is the suddenness of Christ’s return. The little phrase “at hand” translates a word that means close or near. We need to live in such a way that if the Lord Jesus was to come back for His bride today, we would not be ashamed before Him (1 John 2:28).
How is the Lord at hand? Paul knew when he was in prison awaiting execution that his departure to be with the Lord was “at hand.” (2 Tim. 4:6) Peter knew that “end of all things” (1 Peter 4:7) was hand, and John twice wrote, “for the time is at hand.” (Rev. 1:3, 22:10) Doctrinally, we call this the imminency of Christ’s return. The Bible never teaches that Jesus Christ MUST return today or tomorrow! But the Word of God clearly teaches that Christ’s return for His Bride is imminent – it COULD happen at any moment.
We must live expectantly, for we “know not the day nor the hour” (Matt. 25:13) of His return. Paul called this the believer’s blessed hope (Titus 2:13). How at hand is the coming of the Lord? The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:1-2, “But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.” A thief does not announce when he is going to pay a visit to your house, therefore the Bible commands us to be ready for the Lord’s return at all times.
Are you living expectantly, preparing yourself for the day Jesus Christ comes back for all those who know Him as Savior? What are some areas in your life that need to change if you are truly going live expectantly waiting for the Lord’s return?

The Church
The Church, which is the body and the espoused bride of Christ, is a spiritual organism made up of all born-again persons of this present age which began with Christ and the Apostles, was empowered at Pentecost, and will be caught up to be with Christ at the Rapture (Ephesians 1:22-23, 5:25-27; I Corinthians 12:12-14; II Corinthians 11:2).
The establishment and continuance of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures (Acts 14:27; 20:17, 28-32; I Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-11).
The autonomy of the local church free of any external authority or control (Acts 13:1-4, 15:19-31, 20:28; Romans 16:1, 4; I Corinthians 3:9, 16, 5:4-7, 13; I Peter 5:1-4).
